a couple of John Deere men

You may remember that, last Christmas, Jeremy's parents got Jones a battery-powered John Deere tractor. What you may NOT know is that, for the last year, Jones has thoroughly enjoyed playing on the tractor, so long as it didn't move. He's been TERRIFIED of pushing the pedal.

There have been a few times over the year that he'd go a little piece (generally on accident), and we'd think he was finally ready to take off. But it never lasted.

Until today.

On a whim, I packed up the tractor and took it to the Pressleys'. It was the first time he'd really even played with it for, probably, two months, because we generally "ride bikes" at the Pressleys', since all of the ride-ons (save this one) are over there.

To my surprise, Jones rode, and he rode, and he rode. He completely figured out the pedal-part of the tractor, but he's still somewhat perplexed by the steering component. Good thing we've got some time until he's ready for us to set him out in the field.

Freddie whined the entire time Jones was on the tractor, wanting to ride himself. When Jones got off, Freddie got on. Not only did he have the same trouble steering that Jones did, but his legs were too short to keep the pedal pressed for long stretches of time. He'd go for a few seconds and then stop and then go for a few more seconds.

Over and over again.

Still, I have a feeling we're going to be spending even MORE time outside, now that the boys have their own set of wheels. They're getting even more wheels for Christmas - thought nothing as fancy as this battery-powered contraption. Jones is getting an excavator and a pedal tractor, and Freddie is getting a Cozy Coupe Pick Up truck and, for his January 2 birthday, a motorcycle.

Little boys are the BEST.
