It's been awhile, since I've started and finished a photo book, but I couldn't pass up an almost-freebie that came in from Shutterfly this week, so here's a book of some of my favorite photos from the boys' photo shoot with Brooke.
When I said before that the second child in me wouldn't let Freddie be a "second child" in terms of memory keeping, I meant it.
Here is the book that's been 97% done for the last six months but that I didn't push over the finish line until Shutterfly's current "40%-off-of-40%-off" promotion gave me the motivation I needed to finish this bad boy.
Of course, if you find anything "bad" about it, please don't tell me. Much as I hate typos, I don't think I have it in me to do a second edition.
The 9th Annual "Family Annual" is officially in the books!
I'm very excited to have it finished, but I'm gonna have to rework my M.O. for the 10th edition. With two boys to capture, I'm not sure we'll have space in just 110 pages per year, so whether that means there's now a Jones edition and a Freddie, or I chronicle the year in the Annual and put my favorite pictures in a whole 'nother book remains to be seen.
For now, though, it's enough to have officially put 2014 to bed.
Jeremy is so sensible. Knowing that the boys would be up around 7 this morning, he'd have gone to bed last nite in time to get plenty of sleep. In fact, that's what he told ME to do, and it's most definitely what I should have done.
I shoulda ...
and I woulda ...
if only I coulda extended that Shutterfly coupon code a few extra days, but since I couldn't, I spent the wee small hours of this early morning (finally) finishing the photo book for what was, without a doubt, the best Stultz Family Vacation I can remember.
You can have your Maui and, dare I say it, your Disney World.
Don't look too closely at the captions in this book just yet, because I've got a tiny bit of editing left to do, but for all practical purposes, it's finally done.
Photo book-wise, doing for Freddie as I did for Jones has proven to be far harder than I expected it to be. That's why the first book in the planned three-volume "Freddie's First Year" set wasn't finished until today - two days before he hits the half-year mark.
So ...
Awesome.
Anyway, I really have no excuse. I tried to make it easy on myself by using the exact same template that I used for Jones's "Daily Instagrams." That should mean it's as simple as uploading the pictures (which I can do from my phone, which I ALWAYS have on me) and plopping them in the pre-determined, chronologically-organized places.
Still, I can't keep up.
But I'm trying, and I'm glad I am, because strolling through these moments just a few months after they happened has been so much fun as I finished up the book tonite. I can only imagine how fun it'll be to go through them a few YEARS (or DECADES!) after they happen!
Now, I wait for Shutterfly to send an email with "FREE 8X8 PHOTO BOOK" in the subject line.
For the past ... I don't know, 8? ... years, I've been making a photo book to commemorate each year in the Stultz family. We call it "the Family Annual," and for each of the last ... 8, is it? ... years, I've had the book ready to publish as soon as I plopped in the holiday pictures on Christmas nite.
This year, things changed. This year, I was awaiting Freddie Bear on Christmas nite and dealing with a newly independent Jones every other day of the week. This year, the last thing I wanted to do after the boys were in bed was ANYTHING. That's why I'm just now hitting "send" on the 2013 edition.
I am so ashamed of myself.
Not only is the book being published way later than usual, but it's also way more centered on the Pressley family (me, Jeremy, and Jones) than the Stultz family. That's because, thanks to chasing around a baby of my own, I had way less time to chase around the babies of my sister, so pictures of the Four I Adore were far fewer this year than they've been in years past.
Fear not. I have plans to make up for this by creating the World's Greatest Photo Book of our upcoming trip to Pawleys Island.
I'm not sure I put as much time into my dissertation as I did into Jones's baby book. In spite of that, there are STILL things I'd change about it; nevertheless, here is a link to see the book made to commemorate my first son's first year.
Now, the pressure is on to do the same for my second son.
While I may not have taken the time to post about Jones's first trip to Disney World (in a phrase, the trip was, how shall I say it? "Ill-advised."), I HAVE taken the time to make a photo book about his first birthday festivities.
Next up on the photo-booking docket is Jones's baby book, which is very nearly done and WOULD, in fact, be done, had I not spent this whole weekend creating a book about his first birthday festivities.
Maybe later this week ...
Oh, and Jones had his one-year check-up today! He's doing great, praise the Lord. He weighs 20 lbs., 6 oz. (16th %tile), is 29 3/4" long (32nd %tile), and has a head that could choke an open-mouthed hippopotamus - 47.5 cm around (80th %tile). Let's all pray that Freddie takes it easy on his mama and has a normal-sized noggin ... at least at birth.
Remember a few weeks ago when I posted about Jones's Daily Instagram Photo Books?
Well, I tweeted the link out, mentioning @Shutterfly when I did. Their Social Media Manager responded, asking if I wanted to share the idea with others, via the Shutterfly blog. This was like asking Lila if she wants the tomatoes from my salad. OF COURSE, I DID.
The post went live today! It's mostly the same things that I mentioned in the original post, but if you're so inclined, cruise on over to Shutterfly to check it out there.
When it comes to social media, I'm way more of an Instagram'mer than a Blogger.
Surprise, surprise, right?
It's just that there's something about a picture and a caption (or not) that speaks my love language as a photo-phile.
You might say I'm sorta obsessed with this, my favorite form of social media. And just before Jones was born, I decided to hashtag one Instagram picture from each day of his first year (thus, the #DailyInstagramRJP). At the end of his first year, I planned, I'd have a poster made of all 365 pictures, chronologically illustrating his development.
Good plan, right?
Well, about three weeks into my Instagramming, I emailed Printsagram, the company I'd planned would MAKE my poster. To my GREAT dismay, they informed me that pictures in their posters are all printed randomly. My OCD could not tolerate this (could YOURS?!), nor would it fulfill the purpose for which I intended it, so I was left to back up and punt.
Enter Shutterfly.
As they so often do, my favorite photo printer saved my neck by sending me a coupon for a "FREE 8X8 BOOK." I hate to waste the opportunities to print photo books, so I always come up with some random reason to make one whenever they send their gifts, which is blessedly often.
In this particular instance, I thought, "Why not turn the 'Daily Instagrams' into a series of 'FREE 8X8 BOOKS'?!?"
Since Jones was just past the four month mark - and since the coupon had an expiration date - I decided to divide the year into three books - "Birth through Four Months," "Five through Eight Months," and "Nine through Through Twelve Months."
Fortunately for me, another FREE 8X8 BOOK coupon came through just after he hit eight months, and here's hoping they send one on or around his first birthday, so the trilogy will be complete.
In the meantime, books one and two are already signed, sealed, and delivered. I love looking through them and thought you might like to see them, too. After all, who DOESN'T want to look through pictures of someone else's baby?!?
As remarkable as it is to believe, Sunday marked Jones's eight month birthday!
To be honest, he wasn't even remotely interested in his monthly photo shoot. He either wanted to chew on the red frame or crawl away from it, both of which I thought were adorable representations of the way he's growing from a lay-and-play baby to an almost-toddling little boy.
Amazingly, the "bring-him-home" outfit (as Jeremy calls it) fits better today than it ever has. In fact, I'm not sure he'll EVER outgrow it, which is good, because I want to be sure I get my $11 worth out of it!
In addition to getting his first tooth just a few days before turning eight months old (his second came in today - just a few days after ...!), Jones's birthday reminded me of two things:
1) It's time to start making reservations for his First Birthday Celebration at the Happiest Place on Earth, and
2) It's time to create a Shutterfly book of his last four months' of Daily Instagrams.
They say "Jump;" I say, "how high?" They say, "Free;" I say, "When's my deadline?"
The deadline on my latest freebie was yesterday. Hating to waste a free 8X8 book, I decided to make a book of Jones's Daily Instagrams. These are little square pictures I snap once a day with the intent of making a poster of all 365 pictures from his first year. Now - in addition to the poster, apparently - there will be a series of three books, each featuring four months of Instagrams.
