Freddie's Funnies

After church today, we went to Wild Wings in South Asheville. It's kind of become our go-to spot for stopping on the way home from Arden. Jones loves the "cookie soup;" I'm get the buffalo chicken salad. Freddie ...

Anyway.

Freddie wanted to say the blessing today. He said about a thousand things I didn't understand: "Dear Jesus ????? feel better ??? feel better ??? feel better," but when he said, "Pease hep JoJo be a good boy," it came through LOUDLY and clearly.

Truth be told, he's probably heard his mama pray for JoJo's obedience a time or two, so I thoroughly appreciated his intercessory assistance. My dad pointed out that it was a very similar statement to one I made when I was 4 or 5. Daddy asked if I could name any of my sins. I thought for a minute and said, "No, but I can name some of Sissy's."

I still can, to be honest. The difference is, NOW, I can name my own sins, too. Freddie will get there. I hope. Until then, this story is the stuff that family lore is made of.

Freddie's Funny

Today, I was showing Freddie some of the treasures in his memory boxes. He was VERY curious about the things I've saved - among them, his "bring 'im outfit," the invitation to the luncheon after his dedication, and every piece of "Wolecat" or Tarheel clothing he's ever owned.

When I dug deeply enough to get to his 4D ultrasound pictures, I said, "This is you when you were in my tummy. Did you know you used to live in my tummy?" He looked VERY confused and asked in all seriousness, "Did you eat me?"

Oh, Freckle, my precious little Bear, you are just DELICIOUS.

Freddie's Funnies

While yesterday's post seemed to be the (Bobby) Jones Show, today was full of Freddie's Funnies, so here you have them:

I was in the back of the house, putting laundry away. The boys were in the den, watching 'toons. I walked in to the kitchen and saw Freddie, standing on Jones's upside down Easter bucket, trying to reach what he calls the "RUH-mote" (where he got that, I do not know; video is at the end of the post). I'm guessing he was ready to watch something else, and with me not in there, he took matters into his own hands ... as he has a habit of doing. I LOVE this about him. He is so inventive and determined.

At dinner, he didn't want his hot dog. He did, however, want applesauce. Jeremy said, "Eat your dinner, and then you can have applesauce," so then we watched as Freddie took each piece of processed meat off of his own plate and placed it on his brother's (he did NOT get the applesauce, by the way).

This was on the heels of something similar yesterday. He wanted a snack, so Jeremy gave him a bowl full of Teddy Grahams. Then, Jones got applesauce, and Freddie decided he'd rather have that. Like he did tonite, Jeremy said, "Eat your cookies, and then you can have applesauce." I then watched as Freddie dumped the contents of his cookie bowl onto the den floor and ran the empty bowl to his daddy, exclaiming, "I did it!"(he did NOT get the applesauce, by the way).

Finally, toward the end of the day, Freddie said he needed to "teenkyweenty," and he indicated that he wanted to go on the potty, so I figured, "Why not?" and followed him back to the bathroom.

He sat there, oh, so very proud of himself. "I DID it," he said. He hadn't, but he kept sitting there, and every now and then, he'd turn to me and say, "I pee peed again!"

It won't be long, Folks, until he actual does. Three and a half years of diapers, and it honestly feels like the blink of an eye.

("I wanna get the RUH-mote. I wanna GET it ... on the wall. RUH-mote TALL!")

Freddie's Funnies

We were visiting with Mom and Daddy earlier today. Walking out, Jeremy held Freddie's hand about fifteen feet behind where I walked with Jones. Freddie fell.

When I looked back to check on him, he was flat on the ground up, looking at me, like he was trying to decide whether to cry or not to cry. He decided not to cry. Instead, he jumped up in his blue jeans and red Keds, flashed me a smile and a thumbs up, and walked on, saying, "I 'k."

Later today, we were heading back to Mom and Daddy's from lunch at McAlister's. Freddie was in his car seat, playing with his cup (as he does). When he slid his straw back into the lid of his tea, he said, "I DID it!" Then, he put his palm in the air and added, "High five!"
