Snow Day!

Well, it happened. I'd say for every five times the weather forecasters call for snow, we actually GET snow one time - MAYBE twice. But this time, we got it. In spades.

By the time the boys went to bed Friday, the grass was covered. They woke up Saturday to a beautiful blue sky illuminating the perfectly white ground. We probably ended up with six inches, but though they were excited about the snow, they didn't even MENTION going out to play in it, until around 10:30 when Jones came to me and said he'd like to play in the snow and built a snowman named "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing." I am NOT making that up.

So we started the process of getting the boys ready to go outside. I say "started the process," because I remember that, last year, it took about 27 minutes to get them ready for approximately 6 seconds of actual play.

To my surprise, this year was different. It still took forever to get them ready, but we stayed out, playing in the yard and in the clubhouse, for more than two hours. It was actually awesome.

We eventually came in - to eat lunch and have a nap, and as soon as the boys were up, Dolly, Brian, and their boys came over for Round Two. This was when Jeremy pulled out the sled he's had, since he was a little boy. He was surprised it didn't fit quite as well as it used to. "I think it's shrunk," he said.

It fit Jones and Freddie just fine, though. Freddie went down the BIG hill in the backyard - both with Jeremy and with Ellery. Jones stayed at the top of the hill and played, as he did. Then, both boys made snow angels, and when the Byrds headed home, the boys took turns sledding down the "bunny slope."

We came in and counted our blessings - a warm house, layers of clothes to keep us dry, plenty of food, and a Pop who came to scrape our driveway.

Yep. We have MUCH to be thankful for on this super snugly snow day.

This was when they saw Pop pulling
in on the 4 wheeler to scrape the driveway.

When we first went out,
Freddie would take several steps
and then intentionally fall flat
on his face and laugh his head off.

Jones said he was making "Chicken Pie."
It's his favorite, for sure.
Freck was VERY proud that he was able to climb
the wall - even though it had snow on it.
As they ate, they sat in this little
cubby in the corner of the kitchen booth.
Freddie called to me, "Take our 'pitcher.'"
I thought he'd NEVER ASK.
