Freddie's First Step!

He started standing just before he turned one, and though he's been cruising like crazy since then - and standing more and more - it wasn't until this morning that Freddie Bear TOOK HIS FIRST STEP!  He took ONE step, mind you. He stepped towards the maraca (of course) that I was holding just a few few in front of him (he didn't do it, I'll have you know, when I was holding a train or my cell phone. It was only the maraca that made him move). When he did it, I cheered so loudly that he quickly sank to the ground, and he's not tried again since.  But still.  It's a *step* in the right direction (ba dum dum), and I could not be more excited ... mostly because Brooke's planning to take the boys' pictures in Nashville next week, and I'd really prefer for Freddie to be on his feet in his.
So fingers crossed that he really takes off between now and then!

Two Boys' Tuesday

Without a doubt, the biggest thing to happen today was Freddie's first time riding shotgun in the grocery car.

But I'm getting ahead of myself.

First, let me just say that I love having Jeremy at home all the time. I hate why he's home, of course, but having him here (for as long as he ends up being here) is awesome. HE is awesome. One of the ways he demonstrates his awesome-ness is that he goes to the grocery store - like, even though I always offer to go myself, he goes, because he LIKES to go. He also likes to cook (I wish he liked to clean toilets).

These store pictures are TERRIBLE,
because they're all iPhone,
because that's all I had.  The ONE time
I leave the house without my camera ...
Today, however, Jeremy didn't go to the grocery store alone. Cabin fever has set in, so the boys and I bundled up and rode along with him.  Just before we turned into the Ingles parking lot, Jones recognized the store, took in an excited breath, and said, "COOK-kie." He took in that same kind of excited breath when he saw that the grocery car (see photo for details) was available!  Typically, it's just Jones in the car, while Freddie sits in the front of the buggy.

But not anymore.

Today, we put Freddie in the front seat, and what do you know? He loved it. Since Jones didn't push him out of the passenger side opening and try to run over him in the produce aisle - a scenario neither Jeremy nor I would have bet against - we have reached another milestone, Folks.

As soon as the boys were strapped in, Jones took another one of those breaths and pointed in the direction of the bakery: "COOK-kie!"

So off we went.

Not long after we got home, it was nap time. I put Freddie down; then came Jones's turn. I asked if he wanted to read a book.  This is like asking me if I want a can of Coca-Cola first thing in the morning.  Of course, he did. If you read yesterday's post, it won't surprise you at all that he picked "The Big Red Tractor."

After we read it, I handed it to him, as I always do, and said, "Put this back where it belongs." He did as he was told but started to get a tiny bit whiny, knowing what was next.  Trying to quench a brewing fit, I said, "Say, 'Nite, nite, Tractor!'" He immediately said, "Ni, ni, Taaaa-tow," and then kissed the book before putting it back on his shelf and getting into bed without incident.

A thousand times a day, I am weakened by the cuteness of these boys.   If that's tacky to say, then I am guilty as charged, because I am flipped out in love with my two little buddies.

After their naps, they continued to play in yesterday's big pile of pillows on the den floor. It actually ended up being great for Freddie, because he could stand up and not have to worry about hurting himself if he fell face forward, which he did, many times, on purpose. Win-win!

The Pressleys came over for dinner - Jeremy made barbecue, and, I'll have you know, I pulled the pork myself! - and thus ended another wonderful day!

By the way, I promise I don't intend to write every day - but if riding in the grocery car and kissing a tractor book don't warrant an entry, I don't know what does.

There are times when I'll see a picture of one of the boys,
and they'll look so much like their daddy that it stops
my heart for a second. This is one of those pictures.

Freddie's getting on his feet!

I'm going to interrupt this day of binge-posting belated Christmas entries to let you know that THIS has been happening with Freddie.

This is of note, because, while Jones most DEFINITELY got his money's worth out of RIDING that motorcycle, he completely skipped the phase of using it as a walking trainer (which ... cough, cough ... may explain why he didn't walk until he was eighteen months old). I'm hoping this means that Freddie Bear will be on his feet in the next month or so.

Or maybe I should be careful what I wish for.

At any rate, he's doing great with the walker. In fact, last nite, I said, "Good job, Freddie," and Jones immediately said, "job, Ba-bee," which I'm thinking is a clear expression of brotherly love. Right?

Right.

Standing Man!

Jones has had a big day.

It started off pretty normally. He woke up about 6:45, and I gave him some toys, which he played with in his crib, until about 7:30. Then, he and I went downstairs for his breakfast. That's when something amazing happened. He "stood," leaning against one of Mom's ottomans, for, probably, five minutes!! He's never done that before. Whenever I'd try to lean him against something like that, his legs would just crumple under him, but today? Today, we had a standing man!

He's also a laughing man, but what can I say? Poppy is just too funny.

At lunch time, Jeremy came home to eat, and when he was here, Jones took his leaning a step further. He pulled himself up on that same ottoman! I didn't see it for myself, and watch, he'll probably not do again for six months, but still, he's starting to take steps towards taking steps!
I've heard a lot of warnings about when they start walking. Then it's all over, people say.

To be honest, though, with him crawling all over the floor, I'm on CONSTANT crumb patrol. I have to walk with him everywhere just in case there's anything he could possibly put in his mouth, like, say, the packing peanut that somehow ended up in his crib last week (we don't even OWN packing peanuts). I think walking will be a welcome solution to this situation, though I know. I know. It's gonna cause some situations I've not even thought of.

But seriously? I can't wait for him to walk.

Apparently, Mom can't, either, because this morning, she went out for a haircut and came back with a walker! She's been talking about getting one for a few weeks, and today was the day. We're gonna have to call it a "MOON walker," though, because for now, Jones is really only interested in riding it backwards. Just as soon as he masters forward motion, that boy is gonna have himself a ball!

As Mickey Mouse might say, "What a HOT DOG DAY!"
