Happy Birthday, Mama!

The boys and Jeremy have been keeping a secret. I KNEW they were planning a 40th birthday dinner for me and the family. What I DIDN'T know is that he'd invited some of my "family-like" friends to join us, too. Saturday was an absolutely awesome nite at one of our favorite places, the Hemlock Inn.

The best part of the nite, of course, was seeing so many people that I love. The SECOND best part was that my family had the boys eat at THEIR table, so I got to eat with and enjoy a few of my best buddies without having to cut up any chicken or break up any fights.

Best.gift.EVER.

Today, my mom came up to keep the boys, so that I could spend the morning of my 40th enjoying a massage. After that, Mom, the boys, and I met Jeremy at "the Pizza Shop" (Waynesville Pizza Company) for lunch, and tonite, Jeremy served up an amazing cake he'd made me from a Krispy Kreme mix. It wasn't, necessarily, the best day for my diet, but still.

It was a very happy birthday.

Saturday in the South

1) A few weeks ago, I ordered the boys some superhero capes on Zulily. They loved them, though Freddie preferred to wear HIS backwards. I'm guessing the "F" on the back stands for "Front" instead of "Freddie"? Seeing this, of course, Jones followed suit, as they both tried to fly, propelled by a polyester poncho.

2) Jeremy and the boys hung out at the house, while I went to the gym after breakfast. When I called to check in after my workout, Jeremy told me this story. Apparently, Freddie had gone stinky and taken his diaper off, while Jeremy was in our room getting ready. When Jeremy got into the den, a bare bottomed Freck was holding on to the sofa, while his big brother wiped his tiny hiney with a paper towel.

THAT is the most Felix and Oscar story there will EVER be.

3) After hearing Jones ask, "You thinkin' what I'M thinkin'" a thousand times, Freddie's finally started to ask the question himself ... KINDA.

"Mah finkin' YOU finkin'? YOU finkin' MAH finkin'?"

4) You'll be glad to know that Jones's imagination is as alive and well as any 3.75 year old. Today, he explained he'd broken the rule of getting out of his seat before finishing his breakfast, because an ant pushed him.

I'm not convinced. I am, however, amused - and proud of his increasingly vibrant mind. Don't miss the shout out to our favorite special agent at the end.

5) These are some of my favorite pictures ever of Jeremy and Freddie.

6) Jeremy took us all out to eat at the Hemlock Inn tonite. When we went for Mr. Pressley's birthday, we made a mental note to come back, so he surprised the boys and me with reservations for dinner tonite, which was very sweet. The boys had a ball. Jones, in particular, didn't want to leave. When I asked him at bedtime what he was thankful for today, he said, "That we got to eat at that place."

I don't think it was the food so much as the fact that he got to toss a frisbee around before they rang the dinner bell. Oh, and they had a Barney toy, too, so ... what's not to love?

Happy Birthday, Pop Pressley!

At breakfast yesterday morning, I told the boys that today was their Pop Pressley's birthday. We then practiced singing "Happy Birthday." When I walked back to my room for a minute, I heard Jones practicing some more on his own, so I got him to do it again, so I could catch his sweet voice on camera.

Then came the big celebration. Since it's his 70th, we all went out to this amazingly great place in Bryson City, called the Hemlock Inn. We were the only family there, which meant that, once the boys finished their dinner, they could run around the dining room without disturbing anybody, and once everyone else was finished, we could all play on the beautiful grounds around the restaurant.

I can't speak for my father-in-law, but from the perspective of Jeremy, Jones, Freddie, and me, Mr. Pressley's was a VERY happy birthday! Whether it's for a birthday or not, we can't wait to go back to the Hemlock Inn!

Oh, and here's a cute story - Jones ate all of his green beans and asked for moree. I told him he had to eat something else (ANYTHING else) on his plate before I'd give him more. Freddie must've heard my "No," because he picked up one of his green beans, handed it Jones's way, and said, "Want some?"

All heart, that one.  Either that, or he saw an opportunity to unload his green beans without having to eat them himself.
